MOBILE MALWARE
Mobile malware is simply malware on a mobile device, and typically, on a smartphone, or tablet.
Mobile malware attacks are growing at an exponential rate- mobile malware can be installed on a device remotely by an adversary unknown to the user, or it can be installed by the user himself in order to pirate media. Either way, it leads to economic losses, and FatSkunk is offering a tiny piece of embedded client software that will become the next big platform for preventing fraud based revenue leakage on mobiles.
What is wrong with traditional approaches? Mobile devices have limited battery resources, which complicates traditional malware countermeasures. You do not want your phone to run computationally intensive Anti-Virus software constantly in the background, since your batteries will not last long. The traditional Anti-Virus paradigm is computationally intensive, but ours is not. Traditional A/V also requires constant updates of signature lists, which is ok for desktops, but for a wireless carrier, this means months of testing and provisioning each update, and at great expense. Since we dont use signatures, our solution requires NO updates, and is the only solution that can detect active malware on day ZERO- not days later.
